My story - House of illustration
Ever since graduating with an MA in Illustration from the Royal College of Art in 2002, I have dreamed of having a spacious studio where I could both create and showcase my work, a place dedicated to illustration, craft making, and community engagement. Last summer, I finally brought that vision to life by transforming what used to be my mother’s tailoring workshop in Åkerö (Leksand, Dalarna) into the House of Illustration: a vibrant creative space for making and exhibiting my work. The House also serves as a welcoming venue for other artists and artisans to share their creations, exchange ideas, and connect with visitors from the local community and beyond.
Thanks to amazing clients and a diversity of projects my dream has come true!
Since I was small I always wanted to be an illustrator. Today I work worldwide and not one day passes by without me drawing. Thanks to many brave, curious and innovative art directors, publishing houses and enthusiastic individuals who commissioned my work early on in my career I build a portfolio thats is huge and still growing - you know who you are - thanks over and over again! Beyond my regular commissions, I also develop personal projects using a wide range of materials and techniques. On several occasions, public institutions and community centres have discovered my work, either through my website or during visits to the House of Illustration, and have acquired pieces to display in their spaces. Illustration never ceases to surprise and enchant me; it’s a lifelong love affair that deepens with every piece I create.
Made by hand
The ideas behind my work, whether for annual reports, advertising or editorial projects with tight deadlines emerge from hours of sketching and experimenting through a naïve and yet intentional process, where both heart and mind play essential roles. When I create installations, I draw on my technical understanding of materials, construction, and scale. I strongly believe in John Dewey’s principle of “learning by doing,” continuously developing new skills through the making of dolls and other handcrafted objects that I sell in my shop.
My art takes time, care, and patience, but I thrive under deadlines and welcome large-scale, ambitious projects with enthusiasm and experience.
