Ever since graduating with an MA in Illustration from the Royal College of Art in 2002, I have dreamed of having a spacious studio where I could both create and showcase my work, a place dedicated to illustration, craft making, and community engagement. Last summer, I finally brought that vision to life by transforming what used to be my mother’s tailoring workshop in Åkerö (Leksand, Dalarna) into the House of Illustration. This space also serves as a welcoming venue for other artists and artisans to share their creations, exchange ideas, and connect with visitors from the local community and beyond.
The House of Illustration
Since I was small, I always wanted to be an illustrator. Since then, not one day has passed by without me drawing. Thanks to many curious and innovative art directors, publishing houses and enthusiastic individuals who commissioned my work early on in my career I have built a rich and diverse portfolio. Beyond my regular commissions, I also develop personal projects using a wide range of materials and techniques. On several occasions, public institutions and community centres have discovered my work and have acquired pieces to display in their spaces.
The ideas behind my work, whether for annual reports, advertising or editorial projects emerge from hours of sketching and experimenting through a naïve and yet well-planned process, where both heart and mind play essential roles. When I create installations, I draw on my technical understanding of materials, construction, and scale. My art takes time, care, and patience, but I thrive under deadlines and welcome large-scale, ambitious projects with enthusiasm and experience.
